Mid-Week Merrymaking
On Wednesdays, our editor teams take turns planning a fun activity that we do with our "families." From lip-synch battles to cupcake wars to photo scavenger hunts, we know how to create joy in our newsroom!

Shoutouts
At the end of some classes or production blocks, we all take a few minutes to write down something someone helped them with or someone they see doing great work. Then, we gather and read them all out loud.

Families
Every semester, we are put in smaller groups of 5-8 people to create a smaller environment where (especially new) people feel comfortable asking for help. Additionally, we work together on articles throughout the semester.
Late Nights
Five times a year, our staff stays after school to produce the magazine. Often, this goes until ~8 p.m. and wouldn't be complete without our food staples: Communicator Special pizza (feta and banana peppers) and Tracy's classic chocolate chip cookies. After these nights, I work with our print team to complete the magazine, usually about ~20 more hours of all the nuts & bolts.

Edits
After articles have been through peer and section edits, they make their way to EIC edits. This means that I or another one of our print EICs edits every single article in the edition, even before the copy edit stage. We like to think of edits as a collection of little presents, so if you get a piece back with a bunch of comments, it's okay because you just got a great gift! On the left, you can see a small portion of the types of edits we make.

Collaborative Environment
Starting journalism can be scary. To combat this, I work alongside our editors to foster an environment where everyone is excited to learn about all things Publication Hub — both inside and outside of Room 300.
